How do you safely share space with someone who is actively using alcohol and other drugs (AOD) in a dependent way?

A family member or house-mate’s dependent AOD use may have been present pre-COVID but now it may be impossible to escape being around it if you’re working from home or not at all. Conversations and support groups are restricted to phone or Zoom and going to the movies or out with friends isn’t possible.

How do you manage this situation safely without having it affect your own mental health or indeed AOD use?
