Are you a family member or carer of a person who has been treated under the WA Mental Health Act 2014?

Have you been involved – or wanted to be involved – with planning for their treatment, support and discharge?

Tuesday 12th February 2019. 7 – 8.30pm

Guest Speaker:  Debora Colvin, Chief Mental Health Advocate (Mental Health Advocacy Service)

Topic:  Family / carer rights in the development of Treatment, Support and Discharge Plans under the Mental Health Act 2014.
The inclusion of Treatment, Support and Discharge plans and individuals’ and family/carer partnership in their development is a key feature of the Mental Health Act 2014 (the Act).   The Act requires that personal support persons are involved with the development of TSDPs and are given a copy.   A 2017 Inquiry into Treatment, Support and Discharge Plans by the Mental Health Advocacy Service found that “no mental health services were fully compliant with the Act, and many were not compliant at all”.    https://mhas.wa.gov.au/assets/documents/TSD-PLANS-final-report-19-March-2018.pdf.  It is important the families, carers, friends and supporters know what their rights are under the Act and feel confident to speak up and advocate.
