Reflective Conversation on Microaggressions (in co-design and other spaces)

Part 1 – Wednesday 7th December 2022 6pm – 7pm AWST (Zoom)

Part 2 – Wednesday 14th December 2022 6pm – 7pm AWST (Zoom)

Have you ever felt uncomfortable or disrespected in a space but not quite sure why?
You may have been on the receiving end of a microaggression!
Co-facilitated by Lyn Mahboub & Margaret Doherty, Independent Lived Experience Consultants.

A microaggression may be something someone says (uses insulting or stigmatising language; tells a racist or sexist ‘joke’) or something they do (puts their bag on the empty seat next to them as a person approaches).
It may even be something that is not done (ignoring a person in a meeting; not writing down someone’s input on the flipchart paper at a brainstorming session…).
Microaggression may be intentional or unintentional and are based on one person or group’s perception of another person or group’s identity.
While they can be subtle they are nonetheless damaging.
It is therefore important in co-design and other mixed group settings that we can identify and respond to microaggressions appropriately and be aware of avoiding using them ourselves.

Please RSVP to [email protected] and a Zoom link will be sent to you.

Another Light Learning session brought to you by the Lived Experience Co-design Community of Practice.
